Inflation

The president failed to resist out-of-control spending that kicked off inflation’s climb. In April, the consumer price index was up 8.3% from a year earlier, and inflation has now been 5% or higher for 12 months. The president’s inflation failure is costing families an extra $569 each month.

Immigration

The president has failed to secure the border. Last month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection caught people trying to cross the border illegally 234,088 times, the highest number in the Department of Homeland Security’s history and more than four times the average monthly number from 2018 to 2020.

Gas Prices

The president has failed on his promise to help families dealing with high gas prices, which have been climbing steadily under his watch. In the last month alone, gas prices rose 60 cents and have been setting new record highs almost daily since May 10.

Business Optimism

The president has failed to support businesses. In April, small business expectations for better conditions hit the lowest level recorded in the 48-year-old survey. Businesses still trying to recover from the pandemic can’t find workers to open their doors, with 11.4 million job openings across the country. Nearly 50% of small business owners report job openings they could not fill.

Economy

The president has failed on the economy. The economy shrank in the first quarter, contracting for the first time since spring 2020, with GDP falling 1.5%. The president continues to ignore reality, saying he is “not concerned about a recession.” Americans overwhelmingly disagree: 85% expect a recession in the next year.

General Approval

The president’s failures are reflected in his approval ratings, which have hit new lows. A Reuter’s poll in late May found that just 36% of Americans approved of his job performance. More than half of Americans think the president doesn’t care about the needs and problems of people like them, and 66% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy.
