Breakdown of Southwest Land Border Encounters, March 2021   

  1. Single Adults: 99,659 (up 275% vs. March 2020)

  2. Unaccompanied Alien Children/Single Minors: 18,890 (up 486% vs. March 2020)

  3. Family Unit Aliens: 53,623 (up 1,057% vs. March 2020)

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported 172,331 encounters in March, up 71% from February and up 400% from March of 2020. The number of unaccompanied children rose by 100% since February, worsening the Biden administration’s crisis in child detentions. According to CBP, the number of “family unit aliens” was 53,623. This is the number of parents or legal guardians and minors travelling together.
