Families Can't Catch A Break In Biden's Economy
Democrats’ $2 trillion stimulus law in 2021 kicked inflation into high gear, and since then they have been on a campaign to try to spin high prices one day and pretend they don’t exist the next. Last month, President Biden cheered “zero percent inflation in July,” even though prices were up 8.5% over the year. In August, prices were up 8.3% compared to this time last year, and up 13.2% from when Biden took office in January 2021. The hits on American families keep coming and there is no cause for celebration.
Families are being squeezed by soaring prices on basics like food. Grocery prices were up 13.5% in August from a year earlier, the largest jump since 1979. Grocery prices have increased at double-digit rates for six consecutive months. Rising grocery bills are hitting lower income households especially hard, as those families typically spend a greater share of their income on food. Farmers have been hammered by higher input costs; the Department of Agriculture recently predicted that total production expenses for farmers and ranchers like fuel, farmland, and equipment will rise by $66 billion in 2022, the largest year-over-year increase ever.
Families Struggle to Afford Soaring Food Prices
It’s hard for consumers to avoid higher prices at the grocery store, no matter which aisle they walk down. Prices are up for everything from breakfast staples to dinner basics. As inflation crushes families and farmers, Democrats jammed through another reckless tax and spending spree in August. It just goes to show the left is awfully out of touch with the problems families are facing in this economy.
