Biden's Inflation Strikeout

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Even before inflation hit 8.5% in March, it was costing families $296 more a month.
  • As baseball season starts, sky-high inflation means fans are paying more for everything from tickets to the game to the gas to get them to the ballpark.
  • Democrats told Americans that high inflation wouldn’t happen, then they said it wouldn’t last, and now they claim that more spending will fight inflation. It’s clear all of those claims are wrong. Three strikes, they’re out.

America’s pastime is back, with baseball stadiums across the country opening to welcome fans for a full 162-game season for the first time since 2019. But families anxious to get out and cheer on their home team will face skyrocketing prices due to President Biden’s errors. In March, year-over-year inflation hit 8.5%. President Biden has struck out on every excuse and gimmicky “solution” he has proposed to lower prices, and he continues to push his reckless spending agenda as prices soar.

In Joe Biden’s first 15 months in office, inflation has jumped from 1.4% to 8.5% – averaging 5.4% over his time in office. In Donald Trump’s first 15 months in office, inflation never topped 2.7% and averaged just 2.1%. Inflation peaked at just 2.9% during Trump’s presidency, in the summer of 2018. Biden inherited an economy that was recovering from the pandemic, and he dumped $2 trillion of federal stimulus into it, kicking off inflation’s climb.

Despite warnings that reckless spending would ignite inflation, Democrats pushed forward. Now, Bidenflation is hitting Americans with hundreds of dollars in additional costs compared to 2018 and 2019. Moody’s Analytics calculated that inflation was costing the typical households an extra $296 a month – more than $3,500 over the course of a year. And that was before it reached 8.5% in March.

A trip to the ballpark will leave families with tough choices to make. With tickets to sporting events up 8.7%, do you bring the whole family or leave the kids at home? That option comes with its own cost, with babysitting rates up 11%. The drive to the park will cost more: gas prices are up 48%.

Biden’s inflation will follow you every step of the way through the game. A new jersey or team shirt will cost you 10.9% more. At the concession stand, hot dogs are up 6.5%, beer is up 4.8%, and snacks like peanuts and Cracker Jack are up 9.3%. A baseball bat to practice your swings like a major leaguer will cost you 7.9% more.

If you decide to skip the trip, you’ll still pay 4.2% more for your cable and satellite TV service to watch the game at home.

Baseball may be the great American pastime, but Democrats’ favorite sport still seems to be pretending their policies don’t come at a high cost for American families. First they claimed that their reckless spending wouldn’t cause inflation, second that it wouldn’t last, and third that they could fight inflation with even more spending. As inflation has reached 8.5% with no signs of slowing down, it’s clear all three of those claims are wrong. Three strikes, you’re out Democrats.
